In Mortal Kombat 11, Cyrax, Sektor, and Kronika are the only non-playable characters that must be fought throughout the course of the main story mode. This character doesn't even make an appearance in Mortal Kombat 11 nor is he ever referenced.
Triborg had variations that gave him access to the abilities for Cyrax, Sektor, Smoke, and Cyber Sub-Zero.Ĭonsidering that Triborg played no role in Mortal Kombat X's story, it's difficult to determine if Triborg is truly canonical to Mortal Kombat lore. Later, Triborg would be added to Mortal Kombat X's roster as a DLC character. This was certainly an interesting decision on NetherRealm Studios' part considering the popularity of Cyrax and Sektor. Still, this story element was heavily implied rather than outright confirmed.įollowing the conclusion of Mortal Kombat 9, we would later learn that Kuai Liang, Sub-Zero, dissolved the part of the Lin Kuei that forced the Cyber Initiative. Putting two and two together, it seemed very likely that Cyrax was surgically transformed against his will. The next time we see Cyrax in Mortal Kombat 9's story, he was acting as cybernetic entity on behalf of the Lin Kuei despite his bold declarations. "I chose to serve the Lin Kuei, but I will not surrender my free will. "We are not machines, Sektor," responded Cyrax. "The Cyber Initiative will eliminate insubordination," declared Sektor to Cyrax. This really painted the picture of a character that should've been aligned with the forces of good, but was fighting for the wrong side.Įventually, Cyrax found himself in a confrontation with Sektor, a fellow Lin Kuei warrior. You could really tell that the seed of doubt was manifesting in Cyrax at this point. While it should've been rather obvious, Raiden then pointed out that if Shang Tsung and Outworld won the tenth Mortal Kombat tournament in a row, then it would mean the end of Earthrealm and the Lin Kuei.
"Surgically transform the Lin Kuei into glorified robots? It kills our intuition.
"I am among those speaking out against the Grand Master's plan," responded an initially surprised Cyrax. "The Lin Kuei have a history of making ruinous choices," declared Raiden.
In an attempt to change future events, a clairvoyant Raiden tried to persuade Cyrax to take a more direct stance against the Lin Kuei's intentions. Before his cybernetic transformation, Cyrax was among the Lin Kuei warriors that fought for Outworld during Shang Tsung's Mortal Kombat tournament.ĭuring a conversation with Raiden, it was revealed that Cyrax was against the Cyber Initiative. One particularly fascinating plot point revolved around Cyrax and his apprehension about the Lin Kuei's Cyber Initiative program.
